JONNY WHEATER

Building Football Communities - Pearson Park
Started: September 2005
Completed: Ongoing

Every Thursday at 1:30pm the DAD's outreach team are at Pearson Park (off Beverley road), part of the ESF Wyke PACT funded Project. We support the DAD's Football Project Co-ordinator, Dave Frisby with football outreach from until 3pm. It is my responsibility to setup the pitches and ensure everyone is registered with the DAD's New Deal for Unemployed Worker who is responsible for registration of all new members.

When I first went to Pearson Park there was only a small turnout some days of several people, but because of the positive publicity, and the improving weather, there has been enough participants for a full size match. Pearson Park is a great football fun session, which I and a lot of people enjoy, importantly there are a lot of participants from diverse ethnic backgrounds who attend the session's weekly and they are becoming more involved in the DAD's charity, leading to accredited courses.
